2Deen is a companion for new Muslims and for every Muslim: the Quran, hadith, prayer times, the qibla, questions to imams and courses. This page says what the app keeps about you, why, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted.
In short
- No ads, no tracking, and nothing about you is sold.
- You can read the Quran and hadith, see prayer times and find the qibla without an account.
- An account is needed only to ask an imam or take a course.
- You can delete your account at any time, in the app or here.
What we keep, and why
Your account
Your name, your email address and your password, to sign you in. The password is stored only as a salted hash, so nobody, us included, can read it. We note when you last signed in, and a signed-in session lasts 30 days.
Questions to imams
The questions you ask, their topic and the answers you are given. Imams see your question and your name, unless you ask anonymously.
Courses
The courses you join, how far you are through each lesson, and the bookmarks you place in audio lessons, so that you can carry on where you left off. A course’s imam sees who has joined it and how far they are.
Crash reports
When the app fails, it sends what went wrong: the error, where in the app it happened, the app’s version and the phone’s system and version. A crash report carries no name, account or device identifier.
What stays on your phone
Your location, for prayer times and the qibla, is used on your phone while you have the app open. To work out prayer times, the app sends it to the Aladhan prayer-times service; we never receive or keep it. Your reading progress, bookmarks and settings stay on your phone.
Who else sees it
We use these services to run the app. Each handles your data only to provide its service to us:
- Vercel hosts our server and stores files that imams upload to courses, in Frankfurt.
- Neon hosts our database, in Frankfurt.
- Aladhan works out prayer times from the location your phone sends it.
Some of what the app shows is fetched from other servers as you use it: recitation audio (from our own audio server, everyayah.com and qurancdn.com), a lesson’s video when it has one (YouTube), and the letters of some Arabic scripts (Google Fonts). They receive the request, as any website does, and nothing from your account.
We give your data to nobody else, unless the law requires it.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Settings, then Account, then Delete account. Without the app, use the delete-account page. Deleting your account at once removes your name, email address and password, ends every session, and deletes your questions to imams and your courses’ progress and bookmarks.
Security
Everything between the app and our server travels encrypted (HTTPS). After five wrong passwords in a row, an account is locked for ten minutes.
Children
The app is not meant for children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page, with its date at the top.
